North Ridgeville and the places around it
North Ridgeville sits in Lorain County, about 18 miles west of downtown Cleveland. Most calls come from the city itself, along Center Ridge Road, Lorain Road and the streets between them. See drain cleaning and leak detection for the two problems we hear about most.
Not on the list? Westlake, Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township, Columbia Station, Columbia Township, Eaton Township, Lorain and Avon Lake are close by. Call and ask whether a plumber can reach your address.
How coverage works
Every call goes to the same 24/7 line, no matter which town you are in. The dispatcher asks for your street address and ZIP code, what is happening, and which fixtures are affected. That is enough to send the right plumber and to give you safe first steps while you wait.
Giving the ZIP code matters in a few places. Sheffield Village uses ZIP 44054, which the post office labels Sheffield Lake, a separate city. Elyria has two ZIP codes, 44035 and 44036. North Olmsted is in Cuyahoga County, while North Ridgeville, Avon, Elyria and Sheffield Village are in Lorain County.
Permits and utilities change at the town line
A city permit and the city water or sewer office belong to the town where the house stands. North Ridgeville requires a permit for alterations that involve the water supply or the sanitary sewer system, and its Building Division answers questions at (440) 490-2081. The Public Utilities Division at (440) 490-2049 handles water and sewer billing for North Ridgeville accounts.
North Olmsted runs its own permits and utilities, so a North Olmsted job goes through that city and not through North Ridgeville. For Avon, Elyria and Sheffield Village, ask the local building office when a job might need a permit, and say so when you book so the plumber can plan for it.
Sewers that cross town lines
The French Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant sits in Sheffield Village and serves North Ridgeville, Avon and Sheffield through main underground interceptor sewer lines. If several houses on your street have a backup at once, the cause may be in a shared main, so tell the dispatcher and also report it to the utility that serves your address. A single house with a backup usually has a blockage in its own line, and our sewer line cleaning page explains how that is cleared.
A short look at each town
Avon is a city of 24,847 people (2020) on North Ridgeville's northern border, with ZIP code 44011. Elyria, the Lorain County seat, has 52,656 residents and borders North Ridgeville on the west, with homes that range from early neighborhoods near the Black River to newer streets.
Sheffield Village has 4,135 residents along the Black River and hosts the treatment plant mentioned above. North Olmsted grew quickly after 1950, from 6,604 residents to 34,861 by 1970, so many of its homes date from the postwar boom and may have older pipe and water heater setups than a recent build.
For each town, the page linked above covers the problems we see most often there, the ZIP codes we cover, and what to do before the plumber arrives.
If your town is not listed
Coverage is decided by the address, not by a fixed list. If you live in a nearby place such as Westlake or Avon Lake, call and ask whether a plumber can reach you. A dispatcher will give you an honest answer, and if we cannot get there promptly, you are better off knowing that before water is on the floor than after.
What to have ready when you call
- Your street and ZIP code. It tells dispatch which town and which rules apply.
- What you see or hear. Running water, a backed-up drain and a cold shower point to different problems.
- Where the shutoff is. If you can reach the main water valve safely, close it before the call.
- Access details. Mention gates, pets, a basement entrance or an apartment unit.
